Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group Becomes a Lifeline for Family

Valley Caregiver Resource Center provides seniors and their caregivers throughout the Central Valley with a wide array of services. Serving Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare and Tuolumne counties, VCRC is here to help you navigate the caregiving journey.

The Challenges

Valley Caregiver Resource Center (VCRC) recently assisted a distressed family in the Merced County area, consisting of a mother and son grappling with the challenging effects of Alzheimer's disease on their husband and father.

The family faced a heartbreaking situation as the patriarch exhibited severe cognitive decline, with daily mood swings, and an inability to recognize friends and family.

The Solutions & Results

Upon reaching out to VCRC, the family discovered the Alzheimer's and Dementia support group, which became a lifeline for them. While attending the group for nearly a year, both the son and mother not only gained valuable information and resources but also formed a supportive network of friends facing similar challenges.

During this period, they actively participated, offering and receiving advice and comfort.

After approximately six months of engagement with VCRC, the family experienced transformative outcomes. They successfully secured an established caregiver for their home, navigated and prepared for the various stages of the disease, and, most importantly, regained a sense of control in their lives.

The support and resources provided by VCRC not only assisted in practical aspects of caregiving but also fostered a supportive community that empowered the family in their journey through Alzheimer's and dementia.
